Why do lousy pet owners do this?

  • Friday night my hubby found a Jack Russel pup running down our gravel Rd......I have already check with every neighbor within 2 miles of us and it isn't theirs. I have run an ad in our paper and on Craigslist, and also made a sign and put it out at the end of our road. I took this puppy today to check for a microchip.....there isn't one, puppy also hasn't been spayed. Since living in the country, close to a big city, we have a BIG problem with people dumping their dogs and cats out here when they decide that they don't want them anymore! We already have a bulldog that was dumped out here this time last year. Do these people not realize that most likely their cute pup will NOT find a home here, but will either go to the humane society or get killed in the wild?!?!!? What are these people thinking? And how can they just throw their pet out of the car in a strange place and leave it to fight for it's life? Is there a way that neighbors can band together to stop this? One neighbor caught a lady last week dumping her dog in the rain, and he followed her back to town and called the cops on her!


  • Welcome to my world. People are nobs. They are uneducated or think animals are toys or buy something cute and then wonder why they change when they grow up. All we can do is what we can do to educate others. That's why I'm on this list. LOL!

    Take heart, not all people are goofs.


  • I live in an area that had a lot of drop-offs, too. People are dehumanised... in today's culture, life is a disposable thing.

    What sad times we live in.


  • They either don't care if their animal keeps living, figure that "country people" want tons of animals and will just keep it, or figure that dogs will live just fine in the wild. People are insane and cruel.

  • omg that is so sad but sadly my dad is one of those people last year when i lived in a othre house i took like 4 of my puppies and they were only like 2 yrs old and anyay he just took them somewhere alone and i got mad and started crying but all he said was nah tey will be ok and made me get madder so i ignored him for like a month then he stopped and started givin the pups away to good gomes.. i dont know if that helps but i felt like typing this sorry if its too long or ddnt help


  • These people think that the dogs will somehow fend for themselves.

    SERIOUSLY!!

    They honestly think they'll have no trouble "going back into the wild" and finding their own food, shelter, etc.

    I'm SERIOUS!!!
    I've worked these cases, and I even had a friend who said that to my face!!!
    She honestly thought she was doing right by the dog. That because she couldn't keep him anymore, that he'd be happier in the wild!

    I'm not making this up!!!

    Then there is the incorrect notion that, "All country people love animals, so they'll find my little cast off and give her a good home".
    Again, another excuse I'VE ACTUALLY HEARD someone say!!!!
    Like the country has bags of dog food growing from trees and couches as far as the eye can see...

    LOL!!!

    All you can do is post "no dumping" signs, and do your best by the animals. A friend of mine brings no less than 10 animals A WEEK! into the pound. Most of them are euthanized.
    She feels bad, but there's no way she can deal with that many animals.


  • people that do things like that have no respect and should never own an animal in their lives! I treat my dog like my child! It's heartbreaking but it's people like you that have compassion and maybe because of you they will find a good home, it's just too bad that you have to deal with that to begin with so sad!

    :) If you wouldn't do this to a human, why would you do that to an ANIMAL?
    Honestly it disgusts me!

    My puppy (Not mine at the time) was found on the road, and brought to a shelter, 3 days later me and dad went to look at the dogs at the shelter, and we saw this cute little (by little I mean skin and bones!!) black thing. We took her home of course :) My big dog loves her. lol. But it is terrible how someone can do that!
    She was only a few weeks at the time too probably (Our guess would be 4-6 weeks. No more than 6 weeks)

    There probably is a way to stop this in your neighborhood, how? I don't know. :(
