  • Hi folks,

Last time I was in Orlando I was a kid going to DisneyWorld. This time, I'm in for business--a conference at the Orange County Convention Center. I'm not at all familiar with the area, and was wondering if folks had some opinions on best hotels to stay at during the conference.

Also, I was curious what folks thought of the rental car vs taxi situation: guidance seems to be skewed towards the rental car, but that advice was for folks going to WDW. Is there free parking at the convention center, or do hotels have shuttles there?

I'm a Hyatt Diamond and SPG Gold, and so would prefer those properties (is the Hyatt Place near the CC any good?).

These properties are also available at a conference rate:

    Buena Vista Palace
    Buena Vista Suites
    Caribe Royal Orlando
Crowne Plaza Orlando - International Drive
    Gaylord Palms Resort
Hilton in the Walt Disney Resort
    Residence Inn Seaworld International Center

    So, what would you pick?

  • The Hilton isn't that close to the convention center. If your conference isn't shuttling you there, your best bet would be to call the hotel and ask.

I don't know if parking is free at the convention center either.

  • Thanks. I'll be there 5 nights, but booked the Hilton anyways since it seemed like the best option.

  • Parking is not free at the convention center, and it is expensive ($10.00 each entry the last time I attended a con there).

I would opt for a rental car, but only if you think you'll have a bit of free time to kill. If you're strictly going to be at your hotel and the conference, it's probably not worth the bother, as free transportation between most of the hotels you listed and the conference center will be available.

My vote would be for the Hilton in the WDW resort or the Gaylord Palms Resort. The Residence Inn Seaworld would be a close third, but only if you are staying for more than a couple of nights. I always like the extra space.
