» UA November - MR to see the year out.

Australian Based: Work for me ends 2nd November and I'm at 70K for the year all personally paid miles on UA. So I'm looking at doing 2 Months in the US budget style, and do overnight stays at the Hilton to increase my status.. While just MR'ing where possible. This seems logical to myself, but does it to others on the board? Only looking at 1K, but given the MR deals, I will keep doing the miles if they keep coming. I've been the USA many times in the last 2 years, but never long term, so I'm looking at this as a chance to see some of the unknown parts, and see a city more than 12 hours in my previous MR's.I think that if flexable and since you want to stay in a city for more than 12 hours, that you should be able to get a t...... - 2008-12-20

» Pain while running

Hi all, I have a question. Have any of your children complained of pain while running? Mackenzie says her back hurts when she has to run the mile in PE (she's 14, in 9th grade, double major curves at 37 degrees each). I'm not sure there's really pain or if she's just trying to get out of running the mile. I don't want to ignore it if she's really having pain. So any advice or experiences would be appreciated. LisaPrior to surgery, I remember Joe getting muscle cramps in his hip and thigh when he was in track. I know my back feels sore after a long walk or run. Maybe a good stretch before and after will help a little. ReneeThanks Renee. How are you and Joe - and how's it going with your younger son (don't know his name)? ...... - 2008-12-20

» Shearton Starpoints Amex

Sorry to divulge ignorance, but let me get this straight: I now have an American Airlines credit card, but if I got a Sheraton Starpoints Amex credit card I could get all the benefits I now get but without an annual fee: I will essentially get 1 American mile for every dollar spent (by converting Starpoints to miles), but pay no annual fee. Am I missing something? Thank you!Right... and more.... You will get a 5000 point bonus... Transefer 20k points and get an additional 5k courtesy Starwood. Your $20000.00 in charges equals 25000 AAdvantage miles TWTolarian is right.... So actually, it's like getting 1.25 miles per dollar charged... with no annual fee. » How can I view my web page if links use server redirects?

I know you can set up servers so that a file path in a URL maps to a different directory structure on the server, and this is advantageous because it allows for friendly URLs. But how do you view your website on your own machine, then, if the links don't link properly? Do I need to install a webserver on my PC and view the webpage through that?I set up a directory structure on my local machine exactly like I have on the server. Then everything works the same in both locations.Just to add...what do you mean different directory structure on server? Do you mean in comparison from your local machine? The structure is set up by you when you create the site so I'm a little confused when you state set up servers so taht a file path is the URL ...... - 2008-12-20

» Full day departure baggage check on DL

HNL is the only station in airports served by DL that permits departing pax to check luggage any time during the departure day. Check your bags in the morning for an evening departure. You would think this would be a security risk... but then again... it is HNL. http://www.flyertalk.com/airports/ftairports_forum/rolleyes.gifNot sure if that works now. You may be able to do this at the DL counter. The kiosks will not allow you to check in more than 6hrs before your flight departure time (I tried). I had to go to the Medallion/FC counter and check in. I hung out at the CRC and surfed the Net on their T-Mobile wireless connection. » Baltimore crabs?

Going to an Orioles game soon and was looking to get some good crabs (the kind you eat) before the game. Any suggestions for a place close to the park? Thanks!I am afraid that you are about 3-5 years too late. The crab from the Cheasepeak is a thing of the past. G&M's on Nursery road, just outside the beltway (take Nursery Rd off BW Parkway) is quite famous for crab cake sandwich or dinner. The crab balls are boiled, then put in the broiler. I am quite certain they are not from MD crab. If you buy there, you will have to get food to go, as the place is booked further in advance than Paris 3*'s. Zagat gives the place an 8 for decor, which I think is a generous 8.Update. Crabs are plentiful this year in the Bay. The fishermen are ...... - 2008-12-20

We found 'inside out' tube tops at American Eagle that work real well under the Boston brace. The top of the tube top rolls over the top of the brace so it protects under the arm. They also are a different color on each side and therefore, refersable. They normally are $25, but are now on sale for $4. Check your local store or online at ae.com. If you can't find the size or color at your local store, have the store call in an order for you to be sent wherever you want, and you do not need to pay shipping. Hope this helps someone like it did my daughter!!!aah. they're at 4 now? i was gonna buy one. but im deff. going soon. =]oo cool.. im not sure that it will be comfortable for my kind of brace, but saw a pic of it online and i am n...... - 2008-12-20

» Less For Them Isn't More For Us

Less For Them Isn't More For Us "This has always been the frequent flyer's equivalent of the chicken-or-the-egg riddle: Do airlines give $199 leisure travelers $999 worth of service or do $999 full-fare business travelers receive $199 worth of service? During the earliest days of deregulation, during the early 1980s, the airlines could straight-facedly claim that $199 leisure travelers received all the perks and benefits accorded to the $999 business traveler. In recent years, of course, that claim wouldn't pass the laugh test and no airline executive would dare make the suggestion. It is now taken as gospel that everyone gets $199 worth of service and what you pay is between you, your gods, and the yield-management computers. But now,...... - 2008-12-20

» Predictions on how low BOS-NRT will go?

I see $508 fares (basis NX7WEB4B) for BOS-ORD-NRT on AA. (NW7WEB4B, at $27 more each way, for travel on Friday-Sunday.) This is an N fare, so it's valid for the USAJP bonus, but the fare rules say the ticket must be issued by Jan 15. Thoughts on where fares will go from there for round-trip discount coach travel this spring? I wouldn't be surprised to see a change to a different fare bucket (one not eligible for USAJP bonus). But which way will fares go? In previous years, have AA's fares to NRT decreased further? (Edited to fix typos.) I'm flying to Sydney on United (via LAX) on an upgradeable coach fare in mid-March. I have premier exec status (but being demoted to premier tomorrow- switched primary allegiance to AA). Any ideas on how to get around this somehow to get an upgrade approved?Everyone is trying to burn their UA miles ... with negligible status you have no chance (even I would come ahead of you on the upgrade list, and I don't fly United or Star much!). A LayoutRegion has a titleEl. It's private, but it's a useful area. Currently, we can change the text. It also has a div with class "ylayout-panel-hd-tools" which is where the collapse and close buttons are put. Could this be exposed as a Toolbar? I'd like to add operations. Like "Search". In my ListManager widget, the "north" region consists of filter tabs, and potentially a grid. At any point, I'd like to allow the user to go "OK, I like my filters. DO THE SEARCH" So I don't want a lonely button inside each filter tab. I'd like to be able to use: this.northRegion.getTitleToolbar().addButton({...} ); On a related note. I have mentioned this in the past at Mousels and got some good responses, and wanted to see what the general feelings here would be as well. I mentioned before that I am mostly a grappler, but I have studied some wing chun, some boxing, and some JKD. I have been somewhat training some wing chun principles into my grappling. I would like your opinions. What do you think of incorporating basic trapping into a grappling system? » When can a Gold upgrade? (prior to ticketing???)

Perhaps I have a misunderstanding of the new way of doing things. I thought that seats could be upgraded at the time of reservation but prior to ticketing under the "paperless" method. I just spoke to an agent at the MVP desk a few minutes ago and she said that in the past she could upgrade seats prior to ticket purchase only on reservations made through AS web-site or a telephone agent. She said that with the current method, seats could not be upgraded until purchase, particularly when I use a travel agent. My reason for concern is that I have booked my wife in F using a saver award. I am traveling on business and am subject to a company policy of not ticketing until two days before travel. This makes it difficult to assure seats tog...... - 2008-12-20

» Looking for standardSubmit example

I have found examples of forms. I looked at the very good login tutorial that does not use standardSubmit. I have been unable to find a working example of submitting a form to my own php page ($_SERVER["PHP_SELF"]) or another page. There are several questions and answers saying to use standardSubmit, but I have been unable to come up with the right permutation of attributes to make it work. Perhaps there are no working examples of submitting a form because it is too difficult or too easy. I wonder which one it is.per the docs By default, Ext Forms are submitted through Ajax, using Ext.form.Action. To enable normal browser submission of the Ext Form contained in this FormPanel, override the Form's onSubmit, and submit methods: ...... - 2008-12-20

» Step 9 of the 12 step program -- portable DVD player

Well, with minimal buyer's remorse, I unloaded ~$1800 today, purchasing a portable DVD player. (You may remember my 12 step program for weening myself off FF programs in general and Aeroplan in particular in Strategies for 2002 (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum5/HTML/004444.html).) Purchasing the DVD player was Step 9, and designed to make travelling in coach on airlines-of-opportunity (i.e. WestJet) more comfortable. It also has the ability, when combined with other steps, to allow for the creation of a mobile psuedo-lounge wherever I happen to be. I bought the Panasonic DVD-LA95, $1549 at InMotion (http://www.inmotionpictures.com/), the people who rent DVDs and players in airports. » CC&RA considers tax implications of using FF tickets for business trips

According to a convoluted column in today's FINANCIAL POST, the Canadian Customs and Revenue Agency has set out guidelines for the use of FF tickets for business travel. In this particular case, the Agency has ruled on what can be claimed by a company as compensation to an employee using tickets from his/her FF account for business travel, for which financial renumeration is received. Up until now, FF tickets had been valued for tax purposes at the cost of the least expensive economy ticket, no matter which class was actaully flown. However, as more companies are beginning to reimburse employees for using these tickets, the new valuation reflects what can be deducted by the employee as a legitimate travel cost. As well, the rules set ou...... - 2008-12-20

Most FF programs have been revamping their Award Charts, or modifying accumulation levels. Few of these changes have been welcomed by many here, as these have tended to revalue awards for the worst. Though many of us Old Timers have been through worse devaluations, and can raphsodize over the unbelieveable awards we used to get for half the current levels. But those days are long gone. STAR carriers brought out their unified award chart over the past 12-months, though actual redemption levels can vary from program to program given their various accumulation and other perculiarities. » photography help

Now that I'm prepping myself for my first spring in the plains, I need to revamp my photography equipment, and I need a little guidance. I'm looking for an inexpensive digital camera. What are some affordable, yet efficient examples? Gracias. When dealing with quality equipment, there is no such thing as "inexpensive". That being said and not knowing your budget, look at the Canon, Olympus and Sony offereings. DPReview.com is a good place to start. Once you find three or four cameras that fit your budget, look for reviews and go for the one that you like best. For the point and shoot class, I personally like the Olympus C series cameras followed very closely by the Canon G series. As John points out, it all depends on your budget and i...... - 2008-12-20

» Medical UG policy?

Just out of curiosity, does AA have any policy towards upgrading people requiring seats for "medical" reasons? I ask because I have bad knees which, as a result of a recent trip have become even weaker and been aggravated more. I am capable of getting a doctor's note for this, and I am on the upgrade list for my FLL-ORD flight this coming friday. Does AA have any priority for those people that really need the legroom? I know the MRTC has given more room, but in all honesty i have not flown AA metal in coach (only TWA) since before MRTC was done. Does anyone know? -Eli ------------------ Washington,DC/Miami AAdvantage GoldI don't recall any policy of 'you've got a doctors note, have an upgrade', and there's no process to give you priorit...... - 2008-12-20

» Question for the portrait photographers

I'm in the process of converting our garage into a small portrait studio. I simply want an area to photograph the family and friends. At present, I'm very limited in equipment. I have a couple of tripods, a Canon 300D, a Canon Elan ll, and a 420EX flash. After I finish the tape and bedding, I'll probably go with a flat neutral gray for the walls. I plan on dying some muslin for a backdrop. I need your input on the lighting, and I don't have a lot of money to through at it. Your suggestions are appreciated. The studio project is in an album below. Thanks. http://www.picturetrail.com/pa-pawhttp://buyporters.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=45-0617&Category_Code=F3UI thought I'd post some images of the area which I hop...... - 2008-12-20

» The Economy: It can't go on like this

According to The Wall Street Journal, The Chief Executive Officer of Goldman Sach, Lloyd Blankfein, received about $69 million in compensation this year, the largest payday ever for the head of a Wall Street firm. In addition, the 53-year-old chief took home a base salary of $600,000. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Americans are falling behind on their credit card payments at an alarming rate, sending delinquencies and defaults surging by double-digit percentages in the last year and prompting warnings of worse to come. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB119828282710146105.html?mod=googlenews_wsj http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5400383.html..how long it was going to take before the media started to report the looming credit...... - 2008-12-20

» Biz Class Changes

Haven't been on the board much recently as travel was almost non-existent due to business slow downs. Now I am hardly home. Besides lots of other domestic, have been doing YVR to YYC every week for the past few months. Since I haven't moved up the food chain enough for upgrades yet, have been booking C class on Destina for about $575 return. Just went to book the next three weeks trips and both Destina and AC website say that C not available on that route and dates. Checked ITN and shows 9C on all flights that I want. Has purchased C class now been eliminated with the new fare structure? Also have tried YVR-YYZ and get the same message. What gives? No point in trying to route around to different cities as YVR to Edmonton, Prince George,...... - 2008-12-20
